Local Food Purchase Assistance Cooperative Agreement Program

Notice of Funding Issued

States, territories, and federally recognized Tribal governments who were previously awarded an LFPA or LFPA Plus agreement must submit their LFPA25 Project Summary to LFPA@usda.gov  by April 30, 2025.  All other new applicants (state, territory, or federally recognized Tribal governments only) must apply through Grants.gov. For more information, view the press release.

The Local Food Purchase Assistance Cooperative Agreement Program (LFPA) uses non-competitive cooperative agreements to provide funding for state, tribal and territorial governments to purchase foods produced within the state or within 400 miles of the delivery destination to help support local, regional and underserved producers. The purpose of this program is to maintain and improve food and agricultural supply chain resiliency. The cooperative agreements allow the states, tribes and territories to procure and distribute local and regional foods and beverages that are healthy, nutritious, unique to their geographic areas and that meet the needs of the population. The food will serve feeding programs, including food banks and organizations that reach underserved communities. In addition to increasing local food consumption, the funds will help build and expand economic opportunity for local and underserved producers.

All AMS grant and cooperative agreements include the AMS General Terms and Conditions as part of the Notice of Award and Grant Agreement.   More information is provided in the most recent version of the AMS General Terms and Conditions under the Administrative and National Policy Requirements section.

Outreach

Resources

Participants of LFPA Plus must refer to program guidelines, FAQs, and resources on the LFPA Plus webpage.

  • LFPA Guidance on Payment Options (pdf)
  • NASDA GroupGAP Toolkit – Many growers and handlers demonstrate a commitment to food safety through third-party audits known as a Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) certification. The toolkit helps producers understand GAP certification and how it can benefit their farm, and shows the steps to achieving certification and how to find help.
