A: LFPA Plus funding may only be used for the purchase of unprocessed or minimally processed food, as well as food storage and food distribution costs directly related to the purchase of food. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) today announced that producers of pistachios in California, Arizona, and New Mexico voted to continue their marketing order program.

In a referendum held between Oct. 31 and Nov. 18, 2022, continuance of the marketing order was favored by 95% of producers voting in the referendum, and by 95% of the volume voted in the referendum. For the marketing order to continue, two-thirds or more of producers voting, or producers representing two-thirds or more of the volume voted needed to vote in favor of continuance.

The Pennsylvania Local Food for Schools Cooperative Agreement Program (PA-LFS) will sub-award funds to School Food Authorities (SFAs) in Pennsylvania that are operating the National School Lunch and/or Breakfast Program and demonstrate interest and some previous experience in sourcing local foods.
