Federal State Marketing Improvement Program

The Federal-State Marketing Improvement Program (FSMIP) provides matching funds to State Departments of Agriculture, State agricultural experiment stations, and other appropriate State agencies to assist in exploring new market opportunities for U.S. food and agricultural products, and to encourage research and innovation aimed at improving the efficiency and performance of the marketing system.

The term “other appropriate State Agency” means a State university, a State college, or a State government entity such as a State department of forestry, natural resources, or energy. The terms State university and State college include land-grant universities and colleges which are defined as institutions of higher education in the United States and designated by a State to receive the benefits of the Morrill Acts of 1862 and 1890. Tribal colleges and universities that became land-grant institutions in 1994, under the Elementary and Secondary Education Reauthorization Act, as well as other state-run colleges and universities, are also eligible.
