USDA Reminds Regulated Entities of Tools to Support Compliance with the National Bioengineered Food Disclosure Standard

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) is reminding food manufacturers, importers and retailers who package and label food for retail sale or who sell bulk food items that the mandatory compliance date for the National Bioengineered Food Disclosure Standard is Jan. 1, 2022.

USDA Announces Changes to Lentil Standards

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) has revised the criteria for the special grade “Green” for the class “Lentils,” in the U.S. Standards for Lentils. Stakeholders in the lentil processing and handling industry requested that AMS amend the interpretation of the special grade “Green” in the Lentil inspection instructions by redefining the definition and including criteria for the inclusion of mottled lentils.

USDA Announces the National Sheep Industry Improvement Center is Accepting Grant Proposals

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) today announced the National Sheep Industry Improvement Center Board of Directors is accepting grant proposals for the Sheep Production and Marketing Grant Program (SPMGP). The SPMGP was established to foster improvements in the U.S. sheep industry. Proposals will be accepted  through September 15, 2021.

This year, the center budgeted approximately $300,000 to support projects that do one or more of the following: 

USDA Announces Changes to Split Pea Standards

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) has revised the determination of whole peas pertaining to the class “Split Peas” in the U.S. Standards for Split Peas. Stakeholders in the pea processing and handling industry requested that AMS amend the interpretation of “whole peas” in the Split Pea inspection instructions by increasing the percent tolerance for the factor whole peas.
