Export Verification Program

AMS Dairy Program - European Union Export Verification Program

Foreign countries receiving imported agricultural products occasionally set specific requirements for these goods to enter their markets.  When these unique, technical criteria are in place, U.S. exporters may be required to participate in an Export Verification Programs (EVP) to demonstrate compliance with country-specific requirements. EVPs are voluntary, audited, fee-based programs that facilitate the certification of U.S. products for export to these specific markets. Although EVP participation is voluntary, EVPs are required if exporters wish to access these markets.

The European Union (EU) has unique market access requirements established for animal-derived products (including dairy products). These requirements necessitate U.S. dairy exporters to participate in the European Union – Export Verification Program (EU-EVP)  for EU market access. Dairy products and composite products containing dairy ingredients are impacted by the EU-EVP. Additionally, dairy industry contributors providing milk and dairy ingredients to the U.S. supply chain for these exported products are required to participate in the EU-EVP.

Requirements for Great Britain (GB) and Türkiye (TR) are comparable to EU requirements and are also covered by the EU-EVP. The EU-EVP has been developed to ensure U.S. dairy products and composite products comply with these unique requirements and to facilitate continued market access for U.S. dairy exports.

Important EU-EVP Update for Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)

The EU updated its regulations for importers of animal-derived products (including dairy products) to include requirements related to antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Exporters are encouraged to review the updated EU-EVP document and related FAQ document below to ensure continued compliance with EU requirements.
