Join the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service for a three-part webinar series and learn about USDA’s Livestock Mandatory Reporting (LMR) and other market data and resources, and how they support the U.S. pork industry. USDA and industry representatives will provide an overview of LMR live hog and wholesale pork reporting, introduce other USDA resources, and explore how this information can inform real-world marketing decisions at the farm and other points in the supply chain. While anyone can attend the free webinars, they are targeted to pork producers, feeders and other stakeholders who want a better understanding of LMR.

The series will be hosted on Zoom and is open to the public. Pre-registration is required.

Part I: Overview of USDA Reports for the Pork Industry
When: Tuesday, October 12, 2021, 11:00 am – 12:30 pm Central Time

National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) will provide an in-depth history of LMR and how it has evolved. USDA Market News will give an overview of LMR reporting and provide participants with general information about USDA reports and services offered to industry. USDA Packers and Stockyards will discuss the Swine Contract Library and its relevance to the marketplace. The USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service will explain how the Hogs and Pigs report is developed and its value to industry.

Part II: USDA LMR Live Swine Reports

USDA Market News will introduce you to LMR swine reports and address how data is reviewed and aggregated. CME Group will explain how LMR information is used in the CME Lean Hog Index. Representatives from NPPC and Iowa State University will explore how to use LMR swine reports as a risk management tool.

Part III: USDA LMR Wholesale Pork Reports

CME Group will explain how LMR data is utilized in the Pork Cutout futures contract. Industry representatives will discuss how wholesale pork reports are used to mitigate risk, as well as for economic analysis and forecasts.
