GENERAL PROCEDURES

Product Requirements

  • Exporting facilities must be registered with the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety prior to shipment. This registration is the responsibility of management (not AMS graders) and should be completed through this website: https://impfood.mfds.go.kr/?locale=en_EN
    Errors in registration may require involvement from USDA-Foreign Agricultural Service to correct. Please contact the National Office in case of a registration related issue that cannot be resolved through the URL above.
  • Production facilities must apply a Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) system or an equivalent system. Other audit-based programs used to verify HACCP compliance may be evaluated for suitability by the National Shell Egg Office.

Grade Requirements - The shell eggs processed under the supervision of the USDA grader must be graded and certified as U.S. Grade A or better as outlined in the United States Standards, Grades and Weight Classes for Shell Eggs (AMS 56).

Transport – Ocean shipments USDA must visually verify condition of the final transport unit for all eggs destined for South Korea. If the transport unit at origin is not the final transport unit, transloading must take place following instructions in General Export Certification Requirements.

Transport – Air shipments Korea often accepts shipments via air freight. Instructions for the sealing of individual pallets may be found in General Export Requirements.

Duration of Quality (Expiration Dating) - If a prefix, EXP or Best By, is used with a duration of quality that exceeds U.S. domestic policy, the following disclaimer will be printed in the remarks section of the Shell Egg Grading Certificate, LP-210S:

“The expiration date declared on the product is the responsibility of the applicant.”

For shipments to Korea, the maximum duration period cannot exceed 90 days including date of pack.

Certification - When completing the certificate (Form LP-210S) the following information must be included:

  • The statement ‘Certified for Export – Fit for Human Consumption’.
  • The statement: “The shell eggs covered by this certificate were produced in a USDA approved facility according to International HACCP principles.”
  • The statement: “All chemicals utilized during the processing of the eggs comply with U.S. regulatory requirements for use in/on food products including the sanitizing of the eggs after washing.”
  • The statement: “Eggs are analyzed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for chemical contaminants, including drug residues, pesticide residues, radionuclides, heavy metals, dioxins and PCB’s.”
  • The statement: “Edible egg species is chicken.”
  • Date(s) of lay: MM/DD/YYYY (number of cases packed on date)
  • Name and State of production farm. 
  • Product weight is (Insert shipment weight).
  • Projected Shipping date.
  • Transport container sealed at origin with seal number (Seal Number). 
  • Transport vessel number and shipping port (or flight).
