LFPA Executive Summary – Washington

The purpose of the Washington State Local Food Purchase Assistance Pilot Program is to strengthen local food supply chains by facilitating and funding the purchase of Washington-grown and processed food for distribution to people in rural, remote, and underserved communities. Through this pilot program, over $3M will be spent purchasing food directly from local and regional farmers and producers, with 63% of resources prioritized for procurement from socially disadvantaged producers.

USDA Announces the National Sheep Industry Improvement Center is Accepting Grant Proposals

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) today announced the National Sheep Industry Improvement Center Board of Directors (NSIIC) is accepting grant proposals for the Sheep Production and Marketing Grant Program (SPMGP). The SPMGP was established by Congress to foster improvements in the U.S. sheep industry and will be accepting proposals through Sept. 15, 2022.

USDA Proposed Changes to Florida Citrus Marketing Order

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) today announced proposed amendments to the Florida citrus marketing order. As recommended by the Florida Citrus Administrative Committee, changes would include reducing the size and quorum requirements of the committee and revising the nomination and selection processes of committee members. The requirement of allocating committee seats based on volume from each district would also be removed.

LFPA Executive Summary – Puerto Rico

The Department of Agriculture of Puerto Rico, together with its attached agencies, focuses its efforts on the full development of our Puerto Rican farmers. It aims to ensure the island’s food resilience by promoting the production of healthy and wholesome food that promotes balanced nutrition. Where our farmers are the producers par excellence to meet those needs. To such ends, we intend to encourage the marketing of agricultural products by acquiring the crops of our small and socially disadvantaged farmers.

LFPA Executive Summary - West Virginia

The West Virginia Department of Agriculture (WVDA), through the Local Food Purchase Assistance Cooperative Agreement Program (LFPA), will subgrant funds to Facing Hunger Food Bank (FHFB) and Mountaineer Food Bank (MFB). The food banks, utilizing their respective purchasing procedures, will purchase food from local producers who are deemed socially disadvantaged. These producers will be identified with the assistance of various agencies. The domestic food will be distributed to rural and remote communities throughout West Virginia by the food banks.

Summary

This rule implements a recommendation from the Far West Spearmint Oil Administrative Committee to establish salable quantities and allotment percentages for Class 1 (Scotch) and Class 3 (Native) spearmint oil produced in Washington, Idaho, Oregon, and designated parts of Nevada and Utah (the Far West) for the 2022-2023 marketing year.
