Frozen Carrots Grades and Standards

  1. U.S. Grade A (or U.S. Fancy) is the quality of frozen carrots of any style other than chips that:
a. possess a similar varietal characteristics;
b. possess a normal flavor and odor;
c. possess a good color;
d. are practically uniform in size and shape for the applicable style;
e. are practically free from defects;
f. are tender; and
g. score not less than 90 points when scored in accordance with the scoring system outlined in this subpart.  
  1. U.S. Grade B (or U.S. Extra Standard) is the quality of frozen carrots of any style that:

a. possess a similar varietal characteristics;
b. possess a normal flavor and odor;
c. possess a reasonably good color;
d. are reasonably uniform in size and shape for the applicable style;
e. are reasonably free from defects;
f. are reasonable tender; and
g. score not less than 80 points when scored in accordance with the scoring system outlined in this subpart.
  1. Substandard is the quality of frozen carrots that fail to meet the requirements of U.S. Grade B.
