Dr. Mortensen is currently the chair of the Department of Agriculture, Nutrition, and Food Systems at the University of New Hampshire. Prior to assuming this role, Dave was the Distinguished Professor of Weed and Applied Plant Ecology at the Penn State College of Agricultural Sciences, where he received the Outstanding Graduate Teacher and Mentor award by Penn State’s president. He previously served as a Professor of Weed Ecology at the University of Nebraska from 1987 to 2001. Currently he is Chair of the Pests and Beneficial Species in Agricultural Production Systems Foundational Program, USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture competitive grants program. Dr. Mortensen serves on the Board of the Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture and is a member of the Rodale Farming Systems Advisory Committee. He has a PhD in Crop Science & Soil Physics.
