Steps to Certification, Recordkeeping, and Preventative Practices

Videos and Costs of Certification Web Application (Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA)

Three videos provide viewers with a step-by-step approach to prepare for organic certification—the first video provides a general overview of the organic certification process; the second video describes “preventative practices” (activities and techniques that help farmers avoid crop pest, weed, and disease problems on their farms); and the third video provides instruction on how to develop and maintain good recordkeeping practices. In addition, a user-friendly Web-based application is designed to help users develop an accurate, tailored cost-benefit analysis for pursuing organic certification for their crops, livestock, handling, or wild crop operations. It invites users to input specific information about their practices and operations, and provides back cost-benefit information about the organic certification process tailored to the user’s current situation. The tool helps users consider certification costs, additional licensing requirements, and other resources that directly apply to their operations.
