USDA Updates Harmonized GAP Plus+ Audit Standard and Checklist

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) is updating the USDA Harmonized Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) Plus+ audit standard and checklist. This update will allow AMS’s GAP audit services to remain applicable and relevant to its specialty crops industry customers. The updates will become effective Sept. 1, 2022.

LFPA Executive Summary – Virginia

Using the LFPA funds, the Virginia Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services will award sub-grants to agencies with the capacity to procure foods from local sources, focusing on socially disadvantaged farmers/vendors. The sub-grantees will collaborate with food distribution agencies to distribute these products to food insecure individuals, focusing on serving socially disadvantaged communities.

Pre-Solicitation Announcement for the Purchase of Dried Fruit (Section 32)

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) today announced plans to purchase Dried Fruit for distribution to various food nutrition assistance programs. Purchases will be made under the authority of Section 32 of the Act of August 24, 1935, with the purpose to encourage the continued domestic consumption of these products by diverting them from the normal channels of trade and commerce.

Cow Herd Management and Cull Cow Evaluation and Marketing

AMS, along with the USDA Cattle & Carcass Training Center (CCTC) located at West Texas A&M University, will host an educational in-person event at the Paul Engler College of Agriculture and Natural Sciences on September 21-22, 2022.  This event will focus on proper cow herd management and best practices to optimize market value and will include live cattle evaluations.  Guest speakers include representatives from USDA Market News, WTAMU, Livestock Marketing Association, U.S.

LFPA Executive Summary – California

The goal of the Local Food Purchase Assistance (LFPA) program is to establish cooperative agreements with state governments and Tribal governments for the purpose of purchasing food, supporting local producers, and socially disadvantaged farmers. The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) will develop a partnership with multiple agencies to meet this goal.
