Summary

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is adopting a final rule to amend the procedural regulations governing proceedings to formulate or amend Marketing Agreements and Marketing Orders. This final rule adopts a provision to allow the agency to utilize alternative procedures for conducting a rulemaking proceeding as outlined in a notice of hearing.

National Bioengineered Food Disclosure Standard – Final Guidance Documents Now Available

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) has issued final guidance to assist regulated entities in complying with the National Bioengineered Food Disclosure Standard (the Standard), including: Guidance to Ensure Acceptable Validation of a Refining Process, Guidance on Testing Methods and two frequently asked question (FAQ) documents pertaining to each final guidance document. A notice announcing the availability of the final guidance will be published soon in the Federal Register.

USDA Announces Additional Contracts for the Farmers to Families Food Box Program

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has approved up to $1.27 billion in extended contracts and up to $202 million in new contracts to support American producers and communities through the USDA Farmers to Families Food Box Program. In this second round of purchases, the program will purchase $512 million in fresh fruits and vegetables, $288 million in a variety of dairy products, $233 million in meat products and $444 million in a combination box of fresh produce, dairy or meat products.

USDA Seeks Nominees for the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) is seeking nominees for the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board. Nominations are due August 12, 2020, for 24 producers and four importers. All but one member will serve three-year terms beginning February 2021 and ending February 2024. One importer will complete a one-year term due to a resignation.

USDA Reapportions Cattlemen’s Beef Board Membership

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) is adjusting membership on the Beef Promotion and Research Board to reflect shifts in cattle inventory levels since the last board reapportionment in 2017, as required by the rules governing the board.

The total board membership would increase by two members, from 99 to 101, and include the following changes:
