USDA Seeks Nominees for the Texas Valley Citrus Committee

The Texas Valley Citrus Committee administers the marketing order which recommends changes to quality regulations, research and promotion programs, and container regulations for citrus grown in Lower Rio Grande Valley in Texas.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is seeking nominees for the committee to fill seats for five members and five alternates for three-year terms, beginning Aug. 1, 2025. Nominations will take place June 3, 2025.

USDA Seeks Nominees for the South Texas Onion Committee

The South Texas Onion Committee administers the marketing order which recommends changes to quality regulations, research and promotion programs, and markings, pack, and container regulations for onions grown in South Texas.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is seeking nominees for the committee to fill seats for 13 members and 13 alternates for one or two-year staggered terms, beginning Aug. 1, 2025. Nominations will take place June 3, 2025.

Rescinding National Organic Program; Market Development for Mushrooms and Pet Food

Summary: USDA published a proposed rule (90 FR 20133) to rescind the Market Development for Mushrooms and Pet Food (MDR) final rule, which was published on December 23, 2024 (89 FR 104367). 

Compliance Date:
Organic operations must continue to comply with the requirements of the MDR rule (89 FR 104367) unless the rule is rescinded. 

USDA Announces $72.9 Million in Grant Funding Available through Specialty Crop Block Grant Program

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) today announced $72.9 million in grant funding available through the Specialty Crop Block Grant Program (SCBGP). The program funds innovative projects designed to enhance the competitiveness of specialty crops through marketing, education, and research. USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) is accepting applications until July 7, 2025.

USDA Announces $26.5 Million in Grant Funding Available through the Local Agriculture Market Program

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) today announced $26.5 million in grant funding available through the Local Agriculture Market Program (LAMP) to help local and regional food entities develop, coordinate, and expand producer-to-consumer marketing, local and regional food markets, and local food enterprises. LAMP includes the Farmers Market Promotion Program (FMPP), Local Food Promotion Program (LFPP), and the Regional Food System Partnerships (RFSP). USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) is accepting applications for the grant programs until June 27, 2025. 

USDA Announces Meeting Dates for the Grain Inspection Advisory Committee

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Grain Inspection Advisory Committee will conduct its spring meeting on June 11, 2025, from noon to 4 p.m. ET. The meeting will be held virtually.
