USDA Seeks Nominees for the Colorado Potato Administrative Committee – Area 2 (San Luis Valley)

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is seeking nominees for the Colorado Potato Administrative Committee – Area 2 (San Luis Valley) to fill seats for eight members and eight alternates for a two-year term, beginning June 1, 2026, and ending May 31, 2028. Nominations will be accepted at the Southern Rocky Mountain Agriculture Conference from Feb. 3-5, 2026, in Monte Vista, Colo.
The committee is seeking nominees for producers and handlers for the following areas:

PRODUCERS

  • Rio Grande County, one member and one alternate
  • Saguache or Chaffee County, one member and one alternate
  • Conejos or Costilla County, one member and one alternate
  • Alamosa County, one member and one alternate
  • All other counties, one member and one alternate

HANDLERS

  • Bulk Handlers, one member and one alternate
  • Other than Bulk Handlers, two members and two alternates

To qualify as a producer member, nominees must be a producer, or an officer or employee of a producer, who resides in the San Luis Valley and who produces potatoes within the counties represented by the position for which they are nominated. To qualify as a handler member, nominees must be a handler, or an officer or employee of a handler, who resides in and handles potatoes within the San Luis Valley.

The committee is comprised of 14 members. Nine members represent producers, and five members represent handlers. More information about the committee is available on the Colorado Potatoes webpage on the Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) website. 
Authorized by the Agricultural Marketing Agreement Act of 1937, marketing orders are industry-driven programs that help producers and handlers achieve marketing success by using their own funds to design and execute programs that they would not be able to do individually. AMS provides oversight to fruit, vegetable, and specialty crops marketing orders and agreements to help ensure fiscal accountability and program integrity.
