Date
May 16, 2025

The South Texas Onion Committee administers the marketing order which recommends changes to quality regulations, research and promotion programs, and markings, pack, and container regulations for onions grown in South Texas.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is seeking nominees for the committee to fill seats for 13 members and 13 alternates for one or two-year staggered terms, beginning Aug. 1, 2025. Nominations will take place June 3, 2025.

The committee is seeking nominees for:

  • Eight producer members and their alternates
  • Five handler members and their alternates

For nomination information, contact South Texas Onion Committee Manager Dante Galeazzi at (956) 584-9331 or dante.galeazzi@texipa.org or contact USDA Marketing Specialist Delaney Fuhrmeister at (863) 324-3375 or Delaney.Fuhrmeister@usda.gov.

Eligible nominees must be producers or handlers who have grown or handled onions in the production area. Only producers may participate in designating producer nominees, and only handlers may participate in naming handler nominees. Producer members and alternates must not have a proprietary interest in or be employees of a handler organization.

The committee administers the order locally and consists of eight producer members, five handler members, and their alternates. More information about the committee is available on the South Texas Onion Committee webpage located on the Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) website.

Authorized by the Agricultural Marketing Agreement Act of 1937, marketing orders are industry-driven programs that help producers and handlers achieve marketing success by using their own funds to design and execute programs that they would not be able to do individually.  AMS provides oversight to fruit, vegetable, and specialty crops marketing orders and agreements to help ensure fiscal accountability and program integrity.
