USDA Issues Opportunity for Designation and Request for Comments on Official Agencies Servicing Various Areas

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) announces opportunities for designation of grain inspection in the vicinity of Decatur, Ind.; Savage, Minn.; Owensboro, Ky; Casa Grande, Ariz.; Grand Forks, N.D.; Plainview, Texas; Sioux City, Iowa; and Great Falls, Mont.

AMS’s Federal Grain Inspection Service (FGIS) requests comments on official agencies servicing these areas. In addition, FGIS solicits applications for designation from persons or governmental agencies interested in providing official services in these areas.

FGIS also seeks comments on the quality of services provided by the following current providers:

  • Northeast Indiana Grain Inspection Inc. and State Grain Inspection Inc., currently designated through Dec. 31, 2021.
  • J.W. Barton Grain Inspection Service Inc.; Farwell Commodity and Grain Services Inc.; Northern Plains Grain Inspection Service Inc.; Plainview Grain Inspection and Weighing Service Inc.; and Sioux City Inspection and Weighing Service Company, currently designated through March 31, 2022.
  • Montana Department of Agriculture, currently designated through June 30, 2022.

Information and instructions for submitting applications and comments were published in the Federal Register on Oct. 21, 2021.

Applications and comments for areas of designation terminating on Dec. 31, 2021 currently operated by Northeast Indiana and State Grain must be received by Nov. 22, 2021.

Applications and comments for areas of designation terminating on March 31, 2022 currently operated by Barton, Farwell South, Northern Plains, Plainview, and Sioux City must be received between Nov. 1 and Nov. 30, 2021.

Applications and comments for areas of designation terminating on June 30, 2022 currently operated by Montana must be received between Jan. 3 and Feb. 1, 2022.
