Oregon and Washington Hazelnut Producers Vote to Continue the Federal Marketing Order

Date
March 20, 2025

The Hazelnut Marketing Board administers the marketing order which authorizes implementation of research and promotion programs, quality requirements, and regulation of the flow of product to market.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced today that hazelnut producers in Oregon and Washington voted to continue their marketing order program in a referendum held Oct. 28 through Nov. 18, 2024.

Hazelnut producers voted in favor of continuing the marketing order, with 94% in support, representing 93.7% of the production volume voted in the referendum. For the marketing order to continue, at least two-thirds of producers voting, or producers representing at least two-thirds of the volume, must vote in favor of continuance.

The Hazelnut Marketing Board administers the marketing order locally and consists of ten members. More information about the board is available on the Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) Hazelnuts Grown in Oregon and Washington webpage.

Authorized by the Agricultural Marketing Agreement Act of 1937, marketing orders are industry-driven programs that help producers and handlers achieve marketing success by using their own funds to design and execute programs that they would not be able to do individually. AMS provides oversight to fruit, vegetable, and specialty crops marketing orders and agreements to help ensure fiscal accountability and program integrity.
