April 2022 Public Hearing on Proposed Amendments to Marketing Order Number 984

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) held a public hearing on proposed amendments to the federal marketing order for California walnuts.  The hearing took place on April 19-20, 2022, via zoom audio-video conference to enable individuals to participate remotely.

The hearing enabled USDA to gather evidence on the California Walnut Board’s (Board) recommendation to amend the marketing order to eliminate the current requirement for mandatory inspection and certification of inshelled and shelled walnuts, and of shelled walnuts for processing; create a new mechanism for determining and collecting handler assessments and add authority for the Board to charge for late payments; and remove volume control authority.

USDA has made the exhibits and hearing transcripts available in the “Exhibits and Transcripts” page.
