USDA Announces $60 Million Food Purchase to Support U.S. Producers and Strengthen America’s Food Supply

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) today announced its intent to purchase up to $60 million in agricultural commodities from American farmers and producers to distribute to food banks and nutrition assistance programs across the country.

These purchases are being made through USDA’s authority under Section 32 of the Agriculture Act of 1935 and will assist producers and communities in need. With this action, the Trump Administration is bolstering American prosperity by supporting American agriculture, rural communities, and those in need of nutrition assistance.

Announcement for Section 32 Purchase of Canned Pears, Chicken, Fresh Nectarines, Fresh Plums, and Processed Strawberries

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) today announced plans to purchase Chicken and Canned, Fresh, and Processed Fruit products for distribution to various food nutrition assistance programs. Purchases will be made under the authority of Section 32 of the Act of August 24, 1935 (Section 32).

USDA Announces Results of Referendum for the California Raisin Marketing Order

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) today announced that producers voted to amend the federal marketing order for raisins grown in California in a referendum conducted Jan. 12-30, 2026. The Raisin Administrative Committee administers the marketing order which authorizes quality regulations and research and promotion programs regulating the handling of raisins produced from grapes grown in California.

To be accepted, the amendments have to be favored by two-thirds of the producers voting, or by two-thirds of the volume represented.

Paper and Packaging Board

On March 9, 2026, USDA announced the termination of the Paper and Paper-Based packaging Promotion, Research, and Information Order as authorized by the Commodity Promotion, Research, and Information Act of 1996. The termination of the order ended the research and promotion program known as the Paper and Packaging Board (P+PB). P+PB’s purpose was to expand the market for paper and paper-based packaging and was administered with oversight from USDA.

USDA Announces Availability of New Log Truck Route Planner Tool

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) today announced the launch of an innovative new tool, the Log Truck Route Planner, to help forest owners, mill operators, and log truckers in the Pacific Northwest allocate timber and schedule log trucks. The system can assist users in coordinating routing between logging sites and sawmills which can significantly increase the returns to log truck owners/operators, create efficiencies in the operation of sawmills, and ultimately increase the market for U.S. timber products.

USDA Proposes Rule to Amend the California Almond Marketing Order

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is accepting comments on a proposed amendment under the federal marketing order for California almonds.

The proposed amendment would establish borrowing authority to allow the Almond Board of California to borrow funds from financial institutions through a seasonal line of credit. The board recommended this action to better manage approved expenditures within its established internal control policies and help maintain cash flow to support operations, making operations more efficient.
