The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) today announced the appointment of 43 members and four alternates to serve on the United Soybean Board. Forty-six members and alternate members will serve three-year terms and one member will serve a one-year term. The terms of board members appointed to three-year terms start December 2022 and end December 2025.

As part of our goal to goal to make traditional foods and fresh, local foods available to all Yurok Tribal members, the Yurok Tribe Environmental Department (YTED) Food Sovereignty Program will purchase and distribute these foods to tribal members residing within the seven districts of the Yurok Tribe. The Yurok Indian Reservation (YIR) was declared a food desert by the USDA in 2011, with many tribal members having to drive over an hour one way to the nearest supermarket.

Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) administers eight USDA programs serving 88 million meals to students in 2,149 Washington State schools during the 2021 – 2022 school year. As a recipient of Local Food for Schools funding, we aim to increase the nutrition profile of school meals, decrease the production costs of school meals for schools participating in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), through the purchase of Washington grown, raised and harvested foods.
