1. Support local socially disadvantaged farms/food producers by providing 20 local farms and food producers with direct payments totaling $300,000 (62.5% of total award) for locally sourced and produced food.
2. Forge relationships between local farmers/food producers and the underserved Narragansett Tribal Community by providing sourcing, assemblage, and distribution infrastructure to ensure the delivery of fresh locally grown food.
USDA Seeks Nominees for Popcorn Board
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is seeking nominations for the Popcorn Board to fill two processor board seats whose terms will begin Jan. 1, 2024. Nominations are due to the board by May 1, 2023.
Eligible nominees must process over four million pounds of popcorn annually. The appointed members will serve three-year terms.

Summary
This rule implements a recommendation from the Kiwifruit Administrative Committee (Committee) to increase the assessment rate established for the 2022–23 and subsequent fiscal periods. The assessment rate will remain in effect indefinitely unless modified, suspended, or terminated.

How do I apply for the USDA Local MCap?
Eligible applicants for Local MCap grants include business entities (regardless of legal structure) engaged in meat and poultry processing, including rendering animal carcasses or byproducts. Eligible entities include Tribes and Tribal Entities, for-profit entities, non-profit entities, and State or local government entities. Private entities must be independently owned and operated, and all applicants must be domestically owned.
