There are no U.S. grade standards for Lotus Root. These instructions have been developed by the Fresh Products Branch to assist officially licensed inspectors in making inspections, writing certificates and to assist in the proper identification of specialty type fruits and vegetables.
Lotus Root (Lilly Root) is one of the unique vegetables of the Orient, it resembles no other vegetable. It is a productive aquatic crop and large quantities of the roots are shipped to the U.S. to supply the demand of the Oriental population. The lotus root, also known as "the sacred lotus" is indigenous to China, India and Persia.
