Japanese Eggplant Inspection Instructions

There are no U.S. grade standards for Japanese Eggplant. These instructions have been developed by the Specialty Crops Inspection Division to assist officially licensed inspectors in making inspections, writing certificates and to assist in the proper identification of specialty type fruits and vegetables.

Japanese Eggplant (Miniature Eggplant) is similar to regular eggplant, except that its diameter is thinner. It has a slightly milder and more delicate taste than regular eggplant. The skin is thinner and not as tough as its counterpart.
