AMS Is seeking comments on proposed procedures.

On January 4, 2023, AMS announced it is seeking comments on its procedures related to the use of instrument technology in the official meat grading program.

The proposed changes outline several key enhancements to ensure USDA grading is delivered with the highest levels of consistency and accuracy.  Documents outlining the proposed changes are noted in the document list below.  Comments on these documents should be submitted to Dr. Willy Horne, AMS Livestock and Poultry Program, at Willy.horne@usda.gov by May 1, 2023.

The AMS, Livestock and Poultry Program’s Quality and Assessment Division (QAD) provides grading and certification services to the meat, poultry, and egg industries.  QAD recently completed an post-implementation study on the override features of the beef carcass instrument grading.
