USDA Suspends USGSA Inspection Designation for Northeast Indiana Grain Inspection Inc.

Date
May 17, 2023

The U. S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has suspended the Northeast Indiana Grain Inspection Inc.’s (NEI) designation as an agency that may perform official grain inspection and weighing services due to its failure to comply with requirements of the United States Grain Standards Act (USGSA). Under USGSA, when a designated official agency fails to comply with provisions of the Act, regulations, or instructions, the Secretary may seek suspension, revocation, or both, of their designation. USDA filed a formal complaint with the Office of Administrative Law Judges on May 10, 2023.

The Federal Grain Inspection Service (FGIS), Toledo, Ohio, field office will handle grain inspection and weighing services for the Decatur, Indiana area during NEI’s suspension. FGIS may seek service agreements with other official agencies in good standing until this matter is resolved. If NEI’s designation is revoked, FGIS will re-open this area for USGSA designation applications in the Federal Register.

For official grain inspection and weighing services in the Decatur, Indiana area please contact the FGIS Toledo, Ohio, field office by email at fmtol@usda.gov or phone at 419-893-3076.
