March 09, 2018

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is seeking nominations to fill two producer member seats for the Mushroom Council. Nominations for these seats are due to the council by May 1, 2018. The council will hold an election to select nominees for consideration by USDA to fill the seats representing U.S. regional producers. USDA will appoint individuals to succeed members whose terms expire on Dec. 31, 2018.

For a nomination application contact Mushroom Council President and CEO Bart Minor or Mushroom Council Operations Manager Cheryl Abbate at (408) 432-7210, or email Bart@mushroomcouncil.org or Cheryl@mushroomcouncil.org. You may also contact USDA Marketing Specialist Kelly Robertson at (202)720-4818 or Kelly.Robertson@ams.usda.gov.

The council is composed of nine industry members including eight producers and one importer. The council is industry-funded and supports the national marketing and promotion of mushrooms. Since 1966, Congress has authorized 22 industry-funded research and promotion boards to provide a framework for agricultural industries to pool their resources and combine efforts to develop new markets, strengthen existing markets and conduct important research and promotion activities. The Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) provides oversight, paid for by industry assessments, which helps ensure fiscal accountability and program integrity.

More information about the council is available on the AMS website and the Mushroom Council website.
