The Almond Board of California administers the marketing order which authorizes implementation of research and promotion programs, quality requirements, and regulation of the flow of product to market.
Today, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced that almond producers in California voted to continue their marketing order program in a referendum held Dec. 4-20, 2024.
Almond producers voted in favor of continuing the marketing order, with 90.5% in support, representing 93.3% of the production volume. For the marketing order to continue, at least two-thirds of producers voting, or producers representing at least two-thirds of the volume, must vote in favor of continuance.
The Almond Board of California administers the marketing order locally and consists of ten members. More information about the board is available on the Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) Almonds Grown in California webpage.
Authorized by the Agricultural Marketing Agreement Act of 1937, marketing orders are industry-driven programs that help producers and handlers achieve marketing success by leveraging their own funds to design and execute programs that they would not be able to do individually. AMS provides oversight to fruit, vegetable, and specialty crop marketing orders and agreements to help ensure fiscal accountability and program integrity.
