USDA Seeks Nominees for the Popcorn Board

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is seeking nominees to fill two processor seats for the Popcorn Board. U.S Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue will appoint individuals to succeed two members whose terms expire on Dec. 31, 2020. The deadline for nominations is June 1, 2020. Appointed members will serve three-year terms.

Processors who process more than 4 million pounds of popcorn are eligible to submit nominations. Since 1966, Congress has authorized the development of industry-funded research and promotion boards to provide a framework for agricultural industries to pool their resources and combine efforts to develop new markets, strengthen existing markets and conduct important research and promotion activities. The Agricultural Marketing Service provides oversight of 21 boards, paid for by industry assessments, which helps ensure fiscal accountability and program integrity.
