USDA Seeks Nominees for the Paper and Packaging Board

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is seeking nominations for the Paper and Packing Board. U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue will appoint individuals to succeed three members whose terms expire December 31, 2021. The deadline for nominations is April 30, 2020.

The Board is seeking nominees for:

  • One importer seat for a three-year term
  • One seat in the South region for a three-year term
  • One seat in the “rest of the U.S.” region for a three-year term

Nominees must manufacture or import 100,000 short tons or more of paper and paper-based packaging in a marketing year. The 9-member board consists of eight manufacturers from two regions and one importer.

Since 1966, Congress has authorized the development of industry-funded research and promotion boards to provide a framework for agricultural industries to pool their resources and combine efforts to develop new markets, strengthen existing markets and conduct important research and promotion activities. The Agricultural Marketing Service provides oversight of 21 boards, paid for by industry assessments, which helps ensure fiscal accountability and program integrity.
