USDA Proposes Revisions to Cauliflower Grade Standards

Date
May 06, 2016

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) is proposing to revise the U.S. Standards for Grades of Cauliflower, and invites public comments.

AMS is proposing to modify the cauliflower standards to allow all colors, including mixed packs of color, to meet the requirements of the grade.  In addition, the size requirement would be amended to permit curds smaller than 4 inches in diameter, and marking requirements would be added for sizes specified smaller than 4 inches in diameter.  The Unclassified Section would also be removed.  These changes will provide the industry more flexibility to meet growing consumer demands.

The notice will be published in the May 9, 2016, Federal Register.  Comments are due by July 11, 2016.  To view this publication, visit www.regulations.gov.  You can access the current cauliflower standards at:  www.ams.usda.gov/grades-standards.
