USDA Issues Direct Final Action on National Dairy Promotion and Research Board Importer Representation

Date
August 14, 2020

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) today issued a direct final action to maintain the number of National Dairy Promotion and Research Board importer members at one member.

The Dairy Promotion and Research Order requires that at least once every three years the Secretary of Agriculture review a comparison of the average volume of domestic production of dairy products to the average volume of imports of dairy products into the United States during the previous review period, and on the basis of that review, if warranted by the comparison, the Secretary will reapportion the importer representation on the Dairy Board to reflect the proportional shares of the United States market served by domestic production and imported dairy products.

The direct final action will become effective Oct. 5, 2020, unless significant adverse comments are received by Sept. 4, 2020. If the direct final action is withdrawn as a result of such comments, notification of the withdrawal will be published in the Federal Register.

Comments on the direct final action may be submitted at www.regulations.gov, by email to Whitney.Rick@usda.gov or by postal mail to Whitney A. Rick, Director, Promotion, Research and Planning Division, Dairy Program, AMS, USDA, 1400 Independence Ave., SW, Room 2958-S, Stop 0233, Washington, DC 20250-0233. Comments should be identified with docket number AMS-DA-19-0075 as well as the rule’s date and Federal Register page number.

The Dairy Board was established under the Dairy Production Stabilization Act of 1983 to develop and administer a coordinated program of promotion, research and nutrition education. The board is authorized to design programs to strengthen the dairy industry’s position in domestic and foreign markets.
