USDA Invites Comments on Proposed Rule for Reporting Requirements and New Information Collection for the Pecan Marketing Order

Date
July 21, 2017

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is inviting comments on proposed reporting requirements prescribed under the federal marketing order regulating the handling of pecans grown in the states of Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Texas. This proposed rule would require pecan handlers to provide the American Pecan Council with reports on transfers between handlers, year-end inventory and the volume of pecans handled throughout the year.

The proposed rule for this action was published in the Federal Register on July 21, 2017

Requiring handlers to provide these reports to the council would make collecting and compiling handler assessments more efficient and would provide production and inventory data of value to the industry as a whole.

Written comments must be received by August 19, 2017. All comments to this proposed rule submitted by the deadline will be made available for public review and considered before any changes to the reporting requirements are finalized.

Comments may be posted at Regulations.gov, or mailed to Docket Clerk, Marketing Order and Agreement Division, Specialty Crops Program, AMS, USDA, 1400 Independence Avenue SW, STOP 0237, Washington, DC 20250-0237; or faxed to (202) 720-8938.

Copies of the proposed rule may be viewed at Regulations.gov or requested from the address above.

More information about this marketing order is available on the 986 Pecans page on the AMS website.
