USDA Announces Peanut Standards Board Appointments

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) today announced the appointment of three producers and three industry representatives to serve on the Peanut Standards Board.

The following appointees will serve three-year terms beginning immediately and ending June 30, 2022:

Southeast Region (Alabama, Georgia and Florida)

  • Michael H. Davis, Graceville, Fla. (Producer)
  • John T. Gray III, Williston Peanut Co., Williston, Fla. (Industry representative)

Southwest Region (Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico)

USDA Salmon Products Purchase Program Announced

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) today announced plans to purchase salmon products for distribution to various food nutrition assistance programs. Purchases will be made under the authority of Section 32 of the Act of August 24, 1935, with the purpose to encourage the continued domestic consumption of these products by diverting them from the normal channels of trade and commerce.

USDA Canned Pear Products Purchase Program Announced

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) today announced plans to purchase Canned Pear Products for distribution to various food nutrition assistance programs. Purchases will be made under the authority of Section 32 of the Act of August 24, 1935, with the purpose to encourage the continued domestic consumption of these products by diverting them from the normal channels of trade and commerce.

Statement from Under Secretary Greg Ibach Regarding Kansas Beef Facility Fire

USDA is closely monitoring the effects of a fire at a large beef packing facility in Holcomb, Kansas. USDA has been in contact with plant management and other stakeholders since the fire, and we understand production will shift to other plants to accommodate cattle that were committed to the Holcomb facility. USDA is prepared to provide additional staffing necessary to support grading and auditing services at the alternate locations.
