Galena Village (aka Louden Tribe) LFPA Plus Executive Summary

The Louden Tribe (aka Galena Village, or “The Tribe”) intends to pursue a Cooperative Agreement with the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) to receive assistance for a Local Food Purchase Program in Galena, AK.

The Program, as proposed by the Tribe, will procure local, unprocessed food as defined by the LFPA Plus Request for Application, including but not limited to fish, vegetables, meat, grains and flours, beans and legumes, and other allowable items produced in the State of Alaska that may be identified during the project. Priority in the procurement will be given to socially disadvantaged small businesses and organizations. A fraction of the assistance will be reserved to guarantee purchases of small and micro producers in Galena as a way to promote local production, economic development and food sovereignty and security. The proposed duration of the program is two years, starting in January 2024.
