The Chippewa Cree Tribe of the Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation LFPA Plus Executive Summary

The Chippewa Cree Tribe of the Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation is applying for an amended “Local Food Purchase Assistance Cooperative Agreement Program” (LFPA Plus) grant to procure and distribute domestic food to underserved and impoverished Tribal members in our local community. The Tribe will seek out and engage local and regional socially disadvantaged farmers/producers within a 400-mile radius of our reservation distribution site who can provide domestic foods for allocation to our community members.

The biggest change will be the hiring of a full-time staff member who will coordinate all food acquisition and distribution activities over a 24-month period of the 36-month Period of Performance. Other anticipated changes include:

  1. The number of “Project Beneficiaries” will increase from 768 (original estimate) to approximately 1,488 individuals (duplicated count).
  2. We are increasing the period of performance from 24 months to 36 months.
  3. The project is expected to result in the establishment of new marketing opportunities for a minimum of seven (7) vendors instead of the five (5) originally estimated.
  4. We expect to engage a minimum of five (5) socially disadvantaged vendors of domestic foods instead of the three (3) originally anticipated who will provide domestic food for distribution.

All foods procured through the project will be distributed through the Chippewa Cree Tribe’s HELP Lodge, which is a Tribally operated entity that provides food and other assistance to needy families on the Reservation.
