Order Authority and Regulations

The marketing order authorizes quality regulations and information reporting for in-shell and shelled pistachios.  The order went into effect on April 5, 2004 and was last amended under formal rulemaking June 18, 2012. View the full regulation.

  • Quality Regulations:  The marketing order authorizes grade, quality, and size regulations to maintain pistachio quality shipped to consumers, including testing for aflatoxin levels.

    • 8e Requirements: The 8e requirements specify that imported pistachios must meet the same or comparable quality standards and minimum aflatoxin requirements as those specified under this marketing order. Learn more about importing pistachios.

Committee Structure

The Administrative Committee for Pistachios is comprised of two handler members, nine producer members representing four districts, and a public member. Each member has one alternate. Members and alternates are nominated to two-year, staggered terms of office, with one-half of the committee members selected each year. View a list of members & alternates.
