USDA Announces Fruit and Vegetable Industry Advisory Committee to Meet in August

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Fruit and Vegetable Industry Advisory Committee will hold a meeting Aug. 14-15, 2019, at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City Hotel in Arlington, Va.

The committee will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Aug. 14, and from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Aug. 15. The USDA Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) is coordinating the meeting which is open to the public.

Mango Industry Votes to Support Amendment to Add Frozen Mangos to National Mango Research and Promotion Program

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) today announced that the mango industry favored the amendment to expand the national research and promotion program to include coverage of frozen mangos. First handlers and importers of fresh and frozen mangos voted in the referendum.

USDA Removes Eight Fruit and Vegetable Standards from the Code of Federal Regulations

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) announces a final rule that removes seven voluntary U.S. grade standards and one consumer standard for fresh fruits and vegetables from the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). The final rule, published in the Federal Register on July 16, 2019, adopts a previously published interim rule without change.

USDA Frozen Peach Products Purchase Program Announced

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) today announced plans to purchase Frozen Peach Products for distribution to various food nutrition assistance programs. Purchases will be made under the authority of Section 32 of the Act of August 24, 1935, with the purpose to encourage the continued domestic consumption of these products by diverting them from the normal channels of trade and commerce.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) today announced plans to purchase Orange Juice for distribution to various food nutrition assistance programs. Purchases will be made under the authority of Section 32 of the Act of August 24, 1935, with the purpose to encourage the continued domestic consumption of these products by diverting them from the normal channels of trade and commerce.

Cranberry Growers Vote to Continue Federal Marketing Order

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) today announced that cranberry growers recently voted to continue their federal marketing order program for Cranberries Grown in States of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Jersey, Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, Oregon, Washington, and Long Island in the State of New York.

In the referendum held May 6-28, 2019, 79 percent of growers who voted in the referendum favored continuation of the marketing order. Those voting in favor of continuation also represented 82 percent of the volume produced by those voting.
