On November 14, 2017, the Packers and Stockyards Program was reorganized as a new Division within the Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) Fair Trade Practices Program. The activities and structure of the Packers and Stockyards Program described in this Annual Report are based on its status as of September 30, 2017, and do not reflect subsequent changes to the organization.

USDA Launches MARS, Delivering Market Data to Agricultural Producers Around the Globe Faster and Easier

WASHINGTON, Jan. 31, 2018 – The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) today announced the launch of a new electronic data platform to deliver market price information to the commodities industry. The new web-based platform, Market Analysis and Reporting Services (MARS), uses state-of-the-art technology to present detailed data sets in a more customer-focused way to better support competitive markets for producers and help stabilize food prices for American families.

Wool Trust

The Wool Research, Development , and Promotion Trust Fund, as authorized by the United States Congress in 2000 provides grants to a nationally-recognized council established for the development of the United States wool market. The purpose of the Wool Trust Fund is to assist United States wool producers in improving the quality of wool and providing and assisting producers in the development and promotion of the wool market. The American Sheep Industry Association (ASI) represents the nationally­ recognized council, and the funds are received into the Wool Trust Foundation.

Report to Congress on Dairy & Fluid Milk Promotion & Research Programs

USDA's Annual Report to Congress on the National Dairy Promotion and Research Program and the National Fluid Milk Processor Promotion Program includes a description of activities for both programs. The report also includes an accounting of funds collected and spent, and an independent analysis of the effectiveness of both programs' advertising campaigns.

The enabling legislation for both programs requires USDA to submit a report to the House Committee on Agriculture, and the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry.
