WASHINGTON, April 7, 2017 -- The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is seeking nominations for the Mushroom Council to fill three seats for representatives whose terms expire Dec. 31, 2017. Selected members will fill an open position in Region 1, Region 2 or Region 4. Each member is appointed to serve a three-year term.
Deadline for nominations is May 1, 2017.
The Mushroom Council has nine members: eight U.S. producers and an importer. The producer members represent three production territories. Region 1 represents producers in 48 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. Region 2 represents producers in the State of Pennsylvania and Region 3 represents producers in the State of California. The Region 4 seat represents all mushroom importers.
Ballots will be mailed to all eligible domestic producers and importers of mushrooms, who will nominate candidates for the producer and importer seats, respectively. Votes will be tabulated and the top two candidates for each seat will be submitted to the Department for a final selection.

Since 1966, Congress has authorized the establishment of 22 research and promotion boards that are industry-funded and empower agricultural industries with a framework to pool resources and combine efforts to develop new markets, strengthen existing markets, and conduct important research and promotion activities.
