USDA Proposes Termination of Washington Apricot Marketing Order

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is seeking comments on a proposal to terminate Marketing Order No. 922, which regulates the handling of apricots grown in designated counties in Washington State. The marketing order was established in 1957 but has been operating without handling requirements since 2014. If implemented, this proposed action would remove Marketing Order No. 922 from the Code of Federal Regulations and cease operations of the Washington Apricot Marketing Committee.

Chippewa Cree Tribe of the Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation

The Chippewa Cree Tribe of the Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation is applying for a “Local Food Purchase Assistance Cooperative Agreement Program” (LFPA) monetary allocation to procure and distribute domestic food to underserved and impoverished Tribal members in our local community. The Tribe will seek out and engage local and regional socially disadvantaged farmers/producers within a 400-mile radius of the Reservation who have the ability to provide domestic foods for distribution to our community members.

LFPA Executive Summary – Michigan

The purpose of the Michigan Department of Education’s Local Food Purchase Assistance Project is to create and expand community partnerships between existing agencies, organizations, and their local and regional disadvantaged farmers and producers. Planned activities include partnerships connecting farmers, producers, and their products to healthcare organizations, tribal organizations, regional food collectives, mobile pantry programs, fresh produce box programs, food hubs, and allowed processing facilities.
