USDA Solicits Comments on Proposed New U.S. Grade Standards for Frozen Onions

Date
November 23, 2016

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) is soliciting comments on proposed new U.S. Grade Standards for Frozen Onions.

AMS developed the new standard in response to a petition from the American Frozen Food Institute (AFFI).  The proposed new grade standards would provide a common language for trade, a means of measuring value in the marketing of frozen onions, and guidance on the effective use of frozen onions.

The notice soliciting comments is published in the Nov. 23, 2016, Federal Register. Written comments must be received by Jan. 23, 2017, and should be sent to Specialty Crops Program, AMS, USDA, 1400 Independence Avenue SW, STOP 0247, Washington, DC 20250-0247; by fax at (202) 690-1527; or on the internet by visiting www.regulations.gov.

All comments timely submitted in response to this proposed rule will be made available for public review and considered before any changes are finalized.

For a copy of the standards or more information, visit www.regulations.gov, or contact Brian E. Griffin, USDA/AMS Specialty Crops Inspection Division, at telephone: (202) 748-2155 or e-mail: Brian.Griffin@ams.usda.gov.
