USDA Reopens the Comment Period for Proposed Revisions to the Pork Grade Standards

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) announced today that it is reopening the comment period for the proposed revisions to the United States Standards for Grades of Pork Carcasses (pork standards) at the request of industry organizations.

A notice requesting comments on proposed revisions to the pork standards was published in the Federal Register (82 FR 48971) on October 23, 2017. That 60-day comment period closed on December 22, 2017, however, industry organizations submitted comments requesting a 60-day extension to give stakeholders more time to evaluate the proposed changes and to submit comments.

A notice to reopen the comment period was published in the January 17, 2018, Federal Register, with a new deadline for comments of March 19, 2018. Comments may be posted online at www.regulations.gov, submitted by e‑mail to porkcarcassrevisions@ams.usda.gov, or sent to: Pork Carcass Revisions, Standardization Branch, Quality Assessment Division; Livestock, Poultry, and Seed Program, AMS, USDA; 1400 Independence Ave., SW.; Room 3932-S, STOP 0258; Washington, DC 20250-0258.

Comments received will be posted without change, including any personal information provided. All comments should reference the docket number AMS-LPS-17-0046, the date of submission, and the page number of the issue of the Federal Register. Comments must be received by March 19, 2018.
