USDA Removes Eight Fruit and Vegetable Standards from the Code of Federal Regulations

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) announces a final rule that removes seven voluntary U.S. grade standards and one consumer standard for fresh fruits and vegetables from the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). The final rule, published in the Federal Register on July 16, 2019, adopts a previously published interim rule without change.

USDA Files Action Against Coram Deo Farms Inc. in Arizona for Alleged PACA Violations

WASHINGTON, July 3, 2019 – As part of its efforts to enforce the Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act (PACA) and ensure fair trading practices within the U.S. produce industry, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has filed an administrative complaint under the PACA against Coram Deo Farms Inc.  The company, operating from Arizona, allegedly failed to make payment promptly to four produce sellers in the amount of $221,564 from July 2017 through March 2018.

USDA Files Action Against Wayne Bailey Inc. and Wayne Bailey Produce Co. LLC in North Carolina for Alleged PACA Violations

WASHINGTON, June 20 2019 – As part of its efforts to enforce the Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act (PACA) and ensure fair trading practices within the U.S. produce industry, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has filed a complaint under PACA against Wayne Bailey Inc. and Wayne Bailey Produce Co. LLC.  The companies, operating from North Carolina, allegedly failed to make payment to 46 produce sellers in the amount of $8,182,415 from June 2015 through April 2018.

Peanut Industry Votes to Continue Research and Promotion Program

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) today announced that peanut producers voted to continue their federal research and promotion program. Peanut producers voted in a referendum held April 15 through May 3, 2019.

In the referendum, 93 percent of peanut producers voting were in favor of continuing the program. For the peanut research and promotion program to continue, it must be favored by a majority of peanut producers voting in the referendum.
