USDA Continues to Enhance Livestock Mandatory Reporting for Swine and Pork

At the request of the pork industry, USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) will improve its swine and pork reports under the Livestock Mandatory Reporting (LMR) program. Effective August 7, 2017, AMS will expand swine premium price reporting and enhance the pork cutout. These changes, along with guidance previously announced, will provide industry with more data to use in an evolving and competitive marketplace.

National Sheep Center Announces Requests for Proposals

The National Sheep Industry Improvement Center Board of Directors is accepting grant proposals for projects designed to improve the U.S. sheep industry.  Applications will be accepted for the Sheep Production and Marketing Grant Program through September 15, 2017.  The Center is provided funding for this program by USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) through the 2014 Farm Bill.

USDA Reapportions Membership of the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) has issued a final rule to amend the Beef Promotion and Research Order to decrease membership from 100 to 99 members of the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board.  The law authorizing the board requires the board’s size to change with shifts in cattle inventory levels.

USDA Amends the Beef Promotion and Research Order to Update Assessments for Imported Veal Products

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) issued a final rule to amend the Beef Promotion and Research Order under the Beef Promotion and Research Act of 1985.

The amendments will add six Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) codes for imported veal and veal products, and update assessment levels for imported veal and veal products based on revised determinations of live animal equivalencies.
