SJ_LS831 St. Joseph, MO Fri May 24, 2013 USDA Market News Service Central U.S. Daily Direct Feedlot Slaughter Cattle Report as of 3:30 pm Today’s Reported Sales Volume: 7,000 Today’s Estimated Sales Volume: 19,000 Negotiated cash trade and demand was light to moderate in the Northern Plains and Iowa on Friday. In Nebraska compared to last week, dressed sales traded mostly 2.00 lower from 199.00-200.00 with a few up to 201.00. Compared to the bulk of last week, live sales traded .50-1.50 lower from 125.00-126.00. In Colorado live sales traded 1.00 lower at 125.50. In Iowa few dressed sales have traded at 201.00. Trade remains inactive in all other areas. Friday afternoon boxed beef cutout values lower were on light demand and offerings. Choice was down 2.50 at 208.87 with Select down 1.08 to close at 190.44 on 111 loads. The hide and offal value from a typical slaughter steer for today was estimated at 13.99 per cwt live, down -0.01 when compared to Thursday's value. The estimated cattle slaughter for Friday was reported at 124,000 with 27,000 for Saturday for a week to date estimate of 648,000. June CME live cattle contracts were up 1.45 to close at 120.80.
