Feeder Cattle Auction Mid-Session and Close for 02/08/2012

   Compared to last week, feeder and stocker cattle sold unevenly steady.  
The offering was also uneven as to quality and condition, which caused price 
levels to vary within weight ranges.  Demand was very good for all classes 
with thin lightweight calves and top quality 5 weight heifers seeing the most 
action, while 500-650 lb steers and heavier-weight feeder heifers showed some 
signs of weakness.  Receipts are starting to dwindle and will continue until 
fall calves begin making their way to town.  Many producers that normally 
wait until closer to spring to sell have already been lured by record prices 
and sold early.  Supply included 49 percent steers, 46 percent heifers, and 5 
percent feeder bulls.  Around 57 percent of the run weighed over 600 lbs.
