Feeder Cattle Auction Close for 02/03/2010

   Compared to last week, feeder steers under 800 lbs and feeder heifers over 
600 lbs sold firm to 2.00 higher.  Lighter weight heifer calves under 600 lbs 
traded 2.00-4.00 higher with instances as much as 7.00 higher, especially 
early.  A light test of yearling steers over 800 lbs were mostly steady.  
Trading was very active with the bulk of the cattle selling in the upper 
portion of the price ranges.  Backgrounders seem to begin purchasing their 
spring grazing cattle earlier each year and these interests were well 
represented this week.  The offering was mostly attractive with many carrying 
a thin-fleshed stocker condition from the frigid winter weather.  Supply 
included 50 percent steers, 41 percent heifers, and 9 percent feeder bulls.  
Around 35 percent of the run weighed over 600 lbs.
