SJ_LS110 St. Joseph, MO Mon Nov 23, 2009 USDA-MO Dept Ag Market News St. Joseph, MO Stockyards Slaughter Cattle Auction Mid-Session and Close 11/23/2009 Estimated Receipts: 700 Compared to last week, slaughter cows sold 1.00-2.00 higher with slaughter bulls trading firm to 1.00 higher. Slaughter steers and heifers not tested. A large offering of replacement females was on hand for the afternoon Special. Quality was mostly average with a few consignments of top quality bred heifers and young bred cows. The bulk of the afternoon sales consisted of 2nd stage young to middle aged bred cows due to calve starting in February. A very light offering of feeder cattle sold, but not nearly enough to establish a market or quote prices. Note: The St. Joseph Stockyards will not hold their regular Wednesday feeder cattle auction in observance of Thanksgiving.
