SF_LS795 Sioux Falls, SD Mon May 20, 2013 USDA-SD Dept Ag Market News South Dakota Weekly Auction Summary - For the week ending May 20, 2013 Receipts: 33,445 Last Week 22,865 Last Year 21,274 Combined results of Herreid, Hub City, Mitchell, Philip, and Sioux Falls Regional. Compared to last week: Feeder steers steady to instances of 2.00 lower. Feeder heifers mostly steady, instances to 2.00 higher on 950-1000 lbs. Demand moderate to good this week. Cash fed cattle traded steady to 1.00 lower, mostly 125.00 live basis and 202.00 dressed. Overall bearishness persisted in the cattle pits at the CME as Live Cattle contracts lost from .95 to 2.28 and Feeder Cattle contracts lost 1.47 to 3.27. Old crop corn at CBOT gained 16 cents while new crop lost 9 cents. Auction receipts very large across Eastern South Dakota. Most of the offerings were backgrounded steers and heifers ready for finishing lots while there were some cattle offered in town that were originally held through the winter for summer grazing but the continued drought forced their sale. Good rains across much of the state helping the drought conditions but much more is needed. Slaughter cows steady to 2.00 higher, bulls mostly steady on a narrow comparison.
