November 24, 2009 (REPORT 47) WHEY PROTEIN CONCENTRATE - CENTRAL AND WEST Prices for whey protein concentrate 34% are unchanged to higher. Demand is strong and WPC 34% continues to offer some cost advantages to end users with the ability to switch between dairy protein sources. Availability of spot loads is tight. Cheese and related whey protein concentrate 34% production in Central locations are projected to be higher, especially toward the end of the week, as bottled milk demand softens in the region. Foreign Agricultural Service reports that during September 2009, exports of WPC 34% under Schedule B code 0404100500 totaled 7.2 kilotons (kt), a 14% increase from August 2009 and a 32% increase from September 2008. Exports to China (2.5 kt), Mexico (1.8 kt) and Canada (1.3 kt) accounted for 78% of all the WPC 34% exported during the month. Cumulative 2009 exports through September 2009 total 62.0 kt, an increase of about 10% compared to the same time span of 2008. F.O.B.
