July 09, 2009 (REPORT 27) WHEY PROTEIN CONCENTRATE - CENTRAL AND WEST Whey protein concentrate 34% prices are higher on the mostly price series and the market tone seems more firm but some price sensitivity is being noted by sellers on loads carrying aggressive pricing. Full loads of whey protein concentrate 34% from manufacturers are more difficult to locate. Resale product is reportedly somewhat more noticeable in the spot market. Production levels are steady to somewhat lower as one or two plants are working through production issues. The June 2009 Dairy Market News average of the mostly price series for whey protein concentrate 34% was $.5684 compared to $.9473 in June 2008. DAIRY PRODUCTS: The NASS Dairy Products report shows production of HUMAN AND ANIMAL WPC (25.0-49.9% PROTEIN) during May 2009 totaled 22.6 million pounds, 8.8% more than April 2009 production but 11.2% less than production of one year ago. Manufacturers' end-of-month stocks of HUMAN AND ANIMAL WPC (25.0 - 49.9% PROTEIN) totaled 22.1 million pounds, 8.0% more than April 2009 but 26.0% less than May 2008. Production of HUMAN AND ANIMAL WPC (50.0- 89.9% PROTEIN) during May 2009 totaled 11.3 million pounds, 2.2% more than April 2009 production but 2.1% less than production of one year ago. Manufacturers' end-of-month stocks totaled 14.1 million pounds, 0.6% lower than April 2009 and 7.2% lower than May 2008. F.O.B.
